ARM reaches demonstration-scale production in third consecutive EPRI phase
American Renewable Metals has advanced to demonstration-scale production under Phase 2B of its program with the Electric Power Research Institute — the third consecutive scale-up phase EPRI has sponsored.
The sequence matters more than any single phase
Processing technologies fail at the seams between scales. A chemistry that separates cleanly on a bench does not necessarily hold at pilot throughput; a pilot circuit that runs for a week does not necessarily run for a quarter. Each step up is where the assumptions get tested.
- Phase 1, 2020 — bench scale production, industry sponsored
- Phase 2A, 2022 — pilot scale production
- Phase 2B, 2024 — demonstration scale production
Clearing three in sequence, with the same sponsor renewing each time, is the part of the record that carries weight with partners evaluating whether the platform is real.
What demonstration scale unlocks
Demonstration scale is the point at which a technology stops being a research result and starts being something a utility, a smelter or a recycler can plan around. It produces enough material to qualify with downstream buyers, and it generates the operating data that commercial deployment decisions actually require.
Modularity means the path from here is replication rather than redesign — capacity grows by adding skid-mounted units, not by rebuilding a plant.
ARM continues to work with utility, industrial and research partners to move the platform into the domestic critical minerals supply chain.
